Fraud and Deceit
Fraud and deceit involves a false representation of a material fact with the knowledge or belief that the statement is false. The person who makes the false statement must intend to induce another to act or refrain from acting in reliance upon the misrepresentation. In addition, the victim must act in justifiable reliance upon the statement, and the statement must cause damages to the victim. Fraud and deceit can be committed through mail, wire, phone or internet, and it includes false advertising, forgery, embezzlement, and bankruptcy, security and investment frauds. |
